Simple Cake

Today I baked a Rava Cake and a simple white cake. And both turned out perfect :)... You may be wondering why the sudden marathon to bake 2 cakes in one day... I am just trying to figure out the best cake that I should bake for Valentine's day...

This cake is perfect for baking beginners. By the way, you may also want to check my post on Baking Basics for first timers . Now this cake is very easy to make and doesnt use much complicated ingredients and it makes a perfect Tea Time snack :)

Simple White Cake:

Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 30 - 40 min
Total Time: 45 - 55 min

Ingredients:

1 cup All purpose Flour (Maida)
1/2 cup softened butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
Between 1/4 - 1/2  cup milk
1 and 3/4 Teaspoon Baking Powder
2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract ( Essence)

Prepping:

Step 1:

Sieve together the flour and baking powder and keep aside.

Step 2:

Take butter and sugar in a large vessel and cream them together.

Now there are various methods to do the creaming process.

Method 1:

Whisk by hand. Very Tedious process I must say...

Method 2:

Professional Method... Use an electric mixer.

Now I dont have an electric mixer. First time I prepared cake, I whisked by hand and it took a lot of effort as well as time for me.  Now I cream butter and sugar using my blender. My blender has various speeds and there is an option called cream. So I creamed the butter and sugar using blender for 2 min. I creamed in 30 sec intervals, checking every time. The disadvantage of using a blender is that sometimes you may over do it. So be careful and check every 30 sec.

Step 3:

Next beat eggs one by one.

I added eggs one by one to the butter and sugar mixture and using blender, beat the mixture at a low speed.

Step 4:

Add Vanilla Extract and beat for 30 sec.

Step 5:

Add the milk and beat again for 30 sec. You will be having a mixture that looks like below which is of a loose consistency.

Step 6:

Now start adding the flour slowly bit by bit and beat till they are mixed.

Your final cake batter will look like below. It will be of thick consistency.

Method of Preparing:

Step 1:

Preheat the oven to 350 F.

Step 2:

Take a 8 inch round pan and place a parchment paper over it. Now grease the parchment paper with softened butter. Dust a little flour over it.

Step 3:

Pour the cake batter into the cake tin and place the cake tin in the middle rack of your oven.

Step 4:

Bake for around 30 - 40 min till the top of the cake starts becoming golden brown in colour or till a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.

Switch off and let the cool rest in the cake tin for around 30 min. Then loosen the cake from the cake tin by running a knife around the edges. Now place a plate over the cake and invert it. Gently shake and loosen the cake and let it fall into the plate. Your cake is ready... Slice and serve :)
